Law Help Minnesota

Law Help Minnesota is apart of a group of seven legal aid programs that help low-income residents with a variety of legal matters. State Support collaborates widely, including with legal services programs, the Minnesota State Law Library, the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Minnesota Judicial Branch, and other partners in the justice community. Minnesota Legal Advice Online allows members of the public to submit a legal question online to be answered by a volunteer attorney. 

Volunteer Lawyers Network


Volunteer Lawyers Network is a non-profit which provides civil legal services to low-income people or Minnesotan's experiencing poverty through volunteer attorneys. 

Volunteers help to protect the rights and property of thousands of clients every year by advising them at legal clinics, drafting legal documents, representing them in court or otherwise supporting them in their pursuit of justice. Volunteer Lawyers Network advocates for immigrants, refugees, Indigenous people, faith and LGBTQ+ communities, survivors of domestic and sexual violence, people experiencing homelessness, youth and many vulnerable populations.

Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota


Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota is a nonprofit that provides immigration legal assistance to low-income immigrants and refugees in Minnesota. Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota (ILCM) also works to educate Minnesota communities and professionals about immigration matters, and advocates for state and federal policies which respect the universal human rights of immigrants living in Minnesota.

The Legal Rights Center

The Legal Rights Center provides criminal defense and restorative justice services to low-income people. Attorneys work with participants to review their records and offer legal advice. In partnership with the Volunteer Lawyers Network, the Legal Rights Center provides regular criminal expungement seminars on the first Tuesday of every month, at 2:00 pm, at the Minneapolis Urban League (2100 Plymouth Ave North, 55411). Legal Rights Center also partners with the U of M Law School to provide a free monthly workshop called Second Chance Saturday.  It occurs the 3rd Saturday of every month from 11:30 to 2:30 at the University of Minnesota Urban Research and Outreach-Engagement Center (2001 Plymouth Ave North, 55411).

Neighborhood Justice Center


Neighborhood Justice Center is legal service corporation established in 1973 that provides comprehensive criminal defense services to low-income individuals in the East Metro area with a focus on communities of color at no or low costs.

American Civil Liberties (ACLU)


The American Civil Liberties Defends the rights and liberties guaranteed to everyone in the country by the Constitution and laws of the United States. The ACLU also advocates and advises people about criminal justice, prisoner's rights, and other issues.
